When I started thinking about the meaning of my pen name, it helped me focus on the topics I wanted to write about.
The following are my three reasons for choosing Lotus Empress as my pen name.
1. Rebirth
The lotus flower represents rebirth, spirituality, and purity because the lotus roots grow in the mud, the flower blossoms above the water, and then the petals open up one at a time, untouched by the muddy waters.
The mud represents life’s adversities, and the flower symbolizes the journey of overcoming those adversities.
I’ve had to push past the mud in my life to allow for the blossoming of my soul.
The Empress signifies growth, expansion, abundance, femininity, nature, beauty, and nurturing in tarot.
Through my writing, I capture the lessons I have learned to help others in their time of adversity by shining my light to help them know they are not alone in their time of darkness.
My spiritual awakening provided expansion, growth, abundance, and healing. I want my writing to do the same for my readers.
2. Freedom
The anonymity of a pen name permits me to freely express myself creatively as I see fit without the worry of judgment attached to my real name.
Writing incognito is like having a clean slate every time I write, a new beginning.
As writers, we can get heady about the writing process before, during, and after we hit the publish button. We want everything we write to be well-received by our readers. However, that doesn’t always happen.
With a pen name, there is an opportunity to practice detachment from the expected outcome. Is it always easy? No, I make a conscious effort to release and surrender the results of my writing because I can’t control everything, nor do I want to.
Letting go is liberating as it allows me to release what no longer serves me, which makes space for the new abundance to come into my life.
3. Cool Name
I think Lotus Empress is such a cool name.
Believe it or not, I wrestled way too long with my name.
It was probably also one of the reasons it took me so long to write.
We are all right on divine time, and I am so happy to be writing as Lotus Empress.
